Curriculum Overview

048042f992f744b799e3f1c8512e333c 1x1We want all of our children to be thoughtful, independent, resilient citizens giving them the knowledge and skills needed for a successful future in our diverse world.

At Timberley, we aim for our curriculum to be broad and balanced and to give pupils opportunities to achieve our curriculum vision. We incorporate the Statutory Framework for the Early Year Foundation Stage and the National Curriculum, in well-resourced and exciting surroundings.  If you would like any more information about our curriculum please contact your child's class teacher or a member of SLT.

Our curriculum promotes a positive, challenging, and enjoyable learning experience which meets all our children’s needs and abilities. To enable all our children to enjoy, achieve and develop creative approaches to thinking and learning, the curriculum is delivered through individual subjects and experiential learning opportunities.

We strongly believe that children need to develop social and emotional skills if they are to participate effectively in our school and society. We use outdoor learning, our Timberley Farm, Forest School and an exciting Personal, Social and Health Education programme in our curriculum.

We use Read, Write Inc. Phonics and Literacy and Language schemes to deliver our literacy curriculum. We use The White Rose scheme to deliver our maths curriculum and the Kapow to deliver most of our wider curriculum subjects,  with global links in our diverse world. We use Picture News to develop children's personal development, cultural capital and knowledge of the wider world. Our curriculum builds upon knowledge and skills pupils have learnt in previous years.

Our class teachers are responsible for teaching the entire curriculum with specialist provision for Music. We also offer a wide range of extracurricular activities which support and motivate children to achieve their full potential in areas such as sport, the arts, computing and outdoor learning.

At Timberley Academy all class teachers are responsible for providing a curriculum that is suitable for all pupils in the class, including those with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND) with support from the SENCo and SEND team. We have high expectations for all pupils and are committed to ensuring our curriculum complies with the Equality Act 2010 and the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014. Our inclusion statement emphasises the importance of providing an inclusive learning environment for all pupils including those with SEND. Additional information on this can be found in our Special Education Needs Information Report and Equalities Policy.
